The city of São Paulo does not have many bridges exclusively for pedestrians and cyclists.

Located in front of German multinational Bayer’s São Paulo headquarters, the bridge spans the confluence of Pinheiros River and the Guarapiranga Reservoir overflow canal. In addition to expanding the bicycle lanes that run next to the river, the bridge provides access to the Santo Amaro metro station to the region’s community and commuters.

It is not only utilitarian, however, as it offers a place to relax and enjoy the views. Two steel islands serve as stepping stones for the 90-meter crossing, both in terms of structural support, as well as areas where the city’s inhabitants and visitors can stop to enjoy the open air without interrupting the flow along the bridge. The islands, which were inspired by the Victoria amazonica – the largest water lillies of the Nymphaeaceae family -, are covered in vegetation and anchored upon concrete pillars. River transport was also taken into account, with the central span swiveling open, driven by electric motors.
